BARACK'S TICKETS SHOULD BA-REAK HIS BID FOR THE WHITE HOUSE

By: William E. Cripe, Sr.

I think most people--even the most irreligious--accept that Jesus was a good and wise man.  So when Jesus says something, I contend we can take it to the bank, so get your pass book ready to make a deposit.

It seems reasonable to contend that character is vitally important no matter what our cultural icons and media moguls might say.  Enter Barack Obama, the freshman senator from Illinois and the current phenom running for the highest office in the land.

Two weeks before Obama declared his candidacy, he decided to clear up a small matter of some over due parking tickets.  Not a big deal right?  Wrong.  The tickets were 17 years over due making it also reasonable to say that, barring a run for president, those tickets would never have been paid.  That makes it a character issue and a big deal.

Would Jesus agree?  Luke records Jesus' words in chapter 16.  "He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much."  It may seem a very little thing, but it tells a very big story about the make up of the man who wants to lead a nation.

Obama's campaign spokesman dismissed the whole situation as irrelevant.  But if they truly believed it was irrelevant, why did Obama suddenly decide to clean up his mess 17 years later and only after he decided to run for president?  It seems they also realized, despite what they say, that it is vitally relevant because it shows us what kind of man he really is.

But they were just parking tickets!  True--but consider:  Obama was cited for parking in bus stops; parking without a residential permit and for cheating the parking meters, all the while he was--ironically--a law student at Harvard.

But he not only ignored the laws of the land, he ignored all consideration of the people having to get on and off a bus, a bus having to park in the flow of traffic since the bus- stop was occupied by Obama's vehicle.  Apparently, his convenience was all that mattered.

No residential permit?  Such permits are issued both to obtain revenue as well as to control neighborhood access to limited parking.  Again, no matter; Obama's convenience was all that mattered.  And was Obama so strapped for cash that he couldn't spare the change to feed the meter?  I doubt it; rather the law was an inconvenience; an inconvenience Obama chose to overlook over and over again at least 19 times.

So let's say Barack is elected president.  Would he mind, when president, if the citizens he governs decide not to pay their taxes, their license fees, their permits etc.?

You see this really is a big deal or rather should be, but it won't be and that is why we are failing as a nation, growing weaker and weaker rather than stronger and stronger.

What we clearly do know now, is that the man who would be king is a scofflaw plain and simple and "…he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much."  I hope voters remember this, but I doubt anyone will.
